etc versus eta !!!
We have ‘etc’ abbreviated from ‘et cetera’ to mean “and other things” or “and so on”. This does not go with persons. To mean “and others” or “and other persons” we have ‘et al’ coming from ‘et alia’. When et cetera can be shortened to etc, why not et alia to eta?
To be analogous and logical, I prefer eta to et al.

While the suggestion to use 'eta' is good, usage of "et al" seems to fulfil the requirements of aesthetics. (Mohan)
The aesthetic aspects will only be enhanced if it is made to look like its counterpart 'etc'. And its phonetic aspects will remain undisturbed so long as it continues to be pronounced as et alia, even when it is written as eta.
